The latest ASTRA Network Bulletin (4/2025) presents an in-depth overview of key sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) developments across Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
This issue documents how SRHR is being defended, restricted, and reimagined across the region, against a backdrop of growing authoritarianism, coordinated anti-gender campaigns, and shrinking resources for feminist movements.
Country and regional highlights include:
- A landmark European Court of Human Rights ruling on Poland’s abortion ban
- Latvia – mass protests and civil society resistance following attempts to withdraw from the Istanbul Convention
- Russia – new restrictions on mifepristone, limiting access to both medical abortion and emergency contraception
- Armenia – improved access to medical abortion through collaboration with OB-GYNs
- Community-led and digital initiatives expanding access to SRHR services from Hungary and Georgia
- Regional voices brought to the global stage at ICFP 2025
The bulletin also features global solidarity for safe abortion, including a letter and collaboration with the Asia Safe Abortion Partnership (ASAP), and highlights ASTRA Network’s engagement at ICFP 2025.
Together, the articles offer a snapshot of where SRHR stands across the region today — and where sustained funding and long-term partnerships are most urgently needed.
