mission

ASTRA – Network for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia is a regional informal network created in December 1999 by women's rights organizations and activists from Central and Eastern Europe. Currently ASTRA consists of 43 organizations from 20 countries.

Our Vision
A world where every woman in Central and Eastern Europ and Central Asia has equitable access to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), free from discrimination and violence.


Our Mission
To advocate for and protect women's sexual and reproductive health and rights through inclusive and intersectional approaches, fostering solidarity and international cooperation. We are committed to ensuring democratic access to SRHR and providing swift support in crises.


Our Core Commitments

  • Intersectional Advocacy: Addressing the diverse and overlapping forms of discrimination faced by women, including those related to race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, disability, and sexual orientation.
  • Solidarity and Support: Building a resilient network that offers rapid and effective crisis response, continually supporting and empowering our members.
  • International and Regional Engagement: Actively participating in global and regional platforms to influence progressive SRHR policies and practices.
  • Capacity Building: Strengthening our members through training, resource sharing, and collaborative initiatives to enhance advocacy efforts.
  • Enhanced Communication and Visibility: Promoting SRHR through strategic communication, increasing public awareness, and maintaining a strong presence on social media and other platforms.
ASTRA activities
  • Advocating for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in the context of international and regional conferences, meetings and public events;
  • ASTRA members participate as experts, speakers and delegates in various international conferences and events;
  • Organizing trainings and capacity building workshops for its members and representatives of the region;
  • Preparing open letters and position statements to the EU and UN officials;
  • Publishing reports, factsheets, brochures, leaflets and other advocacy materials;
  • Preparing a bi-monthly bulletin with the latest news and development from the regional and global perspective.
