We are pleased to announce a major milestone in our ongoing advocacy for abortion rights, spearheaded by our member organization, Women’s Resource Center, Armenia. Their dedicated efforts have led to significant legislative changes that enhance women’s reproductive rights in Armenia.
On July 12, the National Assembly adopted key amendments to the Law “On Human Reproductive Health and Reproductive Rights” in the second reading. These amendments, resulting from comprehensive recommendations and persistent advocacy by Women’s Resource Center, Armenia, now allow medical abortions up to the 8th week of pregnancy to be performed in licensed medical organizations, including out-of-hospital settings. This change marks a crucial improvement in accessibility and choice for women, as previously, medical abortions were only permitted in hospitals.
Key Changes in the Law:
- Expanded Access: Medical abortions up to 8 weeks can now be performed in licensed medical organizations, including out-of-hospital settings.
- Increased Choice: Women now have more options and greater accessibility when it comes to their reproductive health.
This legislative change represents a significant step forward in advancing women’s reproductive rights in Armenia. It underscores the importance of persistent advocacy and collaboration among partners dedicated to promoting and protecting women’s health and rights.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our partners for their unwavering support in achieving this milestone. Together, we will continue to work towards further advancements in women’s rights and healthcare.
