The Programme of Action (PoA) adopted as an outcome of the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) held in 1994 inCairo has been milestone for introducing human rights approach into sustainable development agenda. The set of goals for improving sexual and reproductive health and rights agreed upon by 179 countries in Cairo continues to serve as comprehensive framework of objectives with a broad mandate on interrelationships between population, sustained economic growth and sustainable development, and advances in the education, economic status and empowerment of women.
