FEDERA’s Statement on the Results of the Presidential Election in Poland

05.06.2025

It is official– Karol Nawrocki will become the President of the Republic of Poland.

This news marks the beginning of a difficult chapter for women in Poland. We see the exhaustion and discouragement around us. But it is in moments like these that we need each other most – together, we can find the strength so many of us need right now.

Yes, all signs suggest that the newly elected President will be yet another obstacle to the crucial changes that a large part of Polish society has been demanding for years. But let us be clear: Karol Nawrocki’s victory does not change anything immediately. The same law remains in place – the one we have lived with for over 30 years, including the darkest years following the 2020 Constitutional Tribunal ruling. The exception for mental health is still recognized by the Ministry of Health and hospitals.

We are still fighting for a new law. And let us not pretend – this is not the presidency that women across Poland were hoping for. Nawrocki’s win is undeniably a bitter blow to our dignity and our health. But this is the reality – and we have to face it. That does not mean we have to accept it passively.

We are not stopping. The fight goes on.

We have said it before, and we will keep saying it until it becomes reality: we will not stop until abortion is legal, accessible, and safe. No matter who holds the highest office in the country, FEDERA will always be here for you. We will continue to offer support and guidance, raise awareness, fight for legal reform, and provide legal and medical assistance.

Our health and our lives are not political bargaining chips. What we need now is solidarity, determination, and smart action.

This is not the end of the struggle for women’s rights in Poland – it is just the next chapter in a long-standing fight. A fight shaped by political games, where the stakes are nothing less than our own lives.
