For over a decade, the EU Anti-Discrimination Directive—created to protect people from unfair treatment in education, healthcare, housing, and social services—has been blocked by a small number of EU member states. Now, the European Commission is preparing to scrap it entirely.
This would be a major setback for human rights across Europe.
Why this matters:
Without this directive, millions of people remain unprotected from discrimination based on age, disability, religion, belief, or sexual orientation. It creates a Europe where some are protected—and others are not. That’s not equality. That’s injustice.
We refuse to accept a two-tier system of rights. No one should be left behind.
ASTRA, together with ILGA-Europe, FEDERA, and Kampania Przeciwko Homofobii, supports this urgent call for action.
We are joining forces with human rights organizations to demand that EU leaders:
- Recommit to the EU Anti-Discrimination Directive
- Guarantee strong, equal protections for all
- Build a real Union of Equality—for everyone, everywhere
