Croatia suspended Sexuality Education in schools after strong Catholic Church opposition

04.06.2013

Only after a few months of teaching the Croatian Constitutional Court suspened all sexuality education classes in public schools. Introduced by the Prime Minister in February these classes were launched to “raise awareness of sexual health” among Crioatian youth. The Catholic Church strongly opposed this programme and with support of church-supported associations claimed that lack of parental authorization of this programme stood in contradiction with the constitution. The Prime Minister, Zoran Milanovic, will continue to fight for sexuality education classes despite strong opposition from conservative groups.
