ASTRA Network condemns the Romanian Parliament’s vote to allocate public funding from the state budget to “Clujul pentru Viață,”[1] an organization known for its anti-choice activities, including the dissemination of false information about abortion and the use of harmful, judgmental language against women facing unwanted pregnancies.
This decision normalizes state support for groups that seek to restrict reproductive rights and autonomy. Public funds must be used to support the health, dignity, and rights of all people—not to finance organizations that undermine them.
We stand in solidarity with Romanian feminists and civil society organizations who are demanding decision-makers to strike down this provision from the state budget. We call on decision-makers to take immediate action regarding this allocation and to uphold women’s rights and access to evidence-based healthcare.
ASTRA Network urges international and European institutions to monitor this situation closely and to hold the Romanian authorities accountable for their actions. We also call on our member organizations and allies across Europe to join us in condemning this decision and to support Romanian sexual and reproductive health and rights defenders in their fight for justice.
Together, we will not allow our rights to be eroded.
In solidarity,
ASTRA Network
