Between Progress and Backlash: ASTRA Bulletin 1/2026 Now Out

01.04.2026

ASTRA Network is pleased to announce the release of its Bulletin 1/2026, presenting key developments in sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) across Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

This issue focuses on the burning topic of abortion access in Europe through the “My Voice My Choice” initiative, highlighting the gap between EU commitments and national implementation.

The bulletin features a range of developments from across the region, including:

  • Albania: efforts to strengthen abortion care through provider training and media engagement to reduce stigma and improve public discourse.
  • Armenia: the growing influence of far-right narratives politicizing reproductive rights ahead of parliamentary elections.
  • Poland: escalating intimidation of healthcare providers and systemic barriers undermining access to lawful abortion care.
  • Hungary: cross-movement feminist collaboration advancing a 10-point policy agenda ahead of elections.
  • Moldova & EECA region: evidence on telemedicine abortion and the role of feminist solutions where state systems fail.
  • Regional public health: progress on HPV vaccination policies in Croatia and Poland.

The bulletin also documents responses to crises, grassroots advocacy, and innovations in SRHR service delivery, offering a comprehensive regional perspective grounded in evidence and lived realities.
