The 6th Congress of Women took place on 9th and 10th May, 2014 in Warsaw, Poland. Poland celebrates two anniversaries this year – 25 years after systemic transformation and 10 years after accession to the European Union. The 6th Congress brought together over 9 thousand people (mostly women) from all over the country. Foreign delegations from several other European countries also reached Warsaw. Representatives of Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Bulgaria but also United States and Tunisia managed to participate in this event. The 6th Congress of Women, under the banner of “community, equality, responsibilityâ€, was inaugurated by its originators and activists – Henryka Bochniarz, Magdalena Åšroda and Dorota Warakomska. The two day event featured plenary and panel discussions, various workshops and other attractions. Polish ASTRA member, Federation for Women and Family Planning, held a panel discussion on access to contraception. The Congress ended with a list of demands, among them „Recognition of women’s rights to make decisions concerning reproduction, including right to sexuality education for everyone introduced in primary school†and „Ratification of the Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence and its implementation with no delayâ€. The demands of the 6th Congress of Women were handed over to the Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
